About Pollen in Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires’ spring allergy season (September-November) is dominated by Plane and Ash pollen; European Plane (Platanus x acerifolia) is numerous along city avenues; Ash (Fraxinus) is common throughout neighborhood streets. Oak (Quercus) contributes significantly from Parque Tres de Febrero and Plaza San Martín. Summer (December-February) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Reserva Ecológica Costanera Sur and along Río de la Plata riverbanks.

High humidity from the river traps pollen near ground level; narrow streets in Microcentro create pockets of high allergen density. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in public gardens and damp riverfront environments.
