About Pollen in Yerevan

Yerevan’s spring allergy season (March-May) is heavy with tree pollen; Poplar (Populus) prolific in Victory Park and the Yerevan Botanical Garden; Oak (Quercus) frequent along the Hrazdan River gorge. Maple (Acer) is common in Circular Park. Summer (June-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels; these originate on the hillsides of Tsitsernakaberd and Nork-Marash. Late summer (August-September) has high Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) and Mugwort (Artemisia) levels; weeds are found in the city outskirts.

The bowl-shaped topography of the Yerevan basin traps pollen and dust; dry winds from the Ararat plain increase concentrations. Autumn has elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) counts; spores are found in damp soil near the Circular Park and water channels.
