About Pollen in Adelaide

Adelaide’s spring allergy season (September-November) is dominated by Ryegrass and Plane pollen; Ryegrass (Lolium) prolific in the Adelaide Plains and parklands; London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia) widespread along North Terrace and city squares. Olive (Olea europaea) contributes significantly from the Adelaide Hills. Summer (December-February) sees high grass pollen levels, originating from the Mount Lofty Ranges and along River Torrens riverbanks.

The Mount Lofty Ranges trap air masses, leading to high pollen concentrations along the coast. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp leaf litter in Belair National Park and the Botanic Garden.
