About Pollen in Brisbane

Brisbane’s spring (August–October) has high Cypress Pine (Callitris) pollen; trees are common in Mount Coot-tha forests; Mango (Mangifera indica) flowers fill suburban gardens. Jacaranda (Jacaranda mimosifolia) is widespread in New Farm Park and city streets. Summer (October–March) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels; sources are the Brisbane River banks and Roma Street Parkland.

Hilly terrain and the river valley trap pollen; western ranges block coastal wind flow. Humid summers and autumns have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; Boondall Wetlands and the Enoggera Reservoir produce significant volumes from damp organic matter.
