About Pollen in Curitiba

Curitiba’s spring allergy season (September-November) is dominated by Parana Pine and Pine pollen; Parana Pine (Araucaria angustifolia) prolific in Bosque Alemão and Parque Barigui; Pine (Pinus) widespread across urban reforestation zones. Privet (Ligustrum) contributes significantly from residential streets. Summer (December-February) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the fields of Parque Tingui and along the Rio Iguaçu banks.

High humidity and frequent plateau fog trap pollen; the Serra do Mar mountains block air movement. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp environments in the Jardim Botânico and decaying leaf litter in the Bosque de Portugal.
