About Pollen in Porto Alegre

Porto Alegre’s spring (September-November) is dominated by Chinaberry and Privet pollen; Chinaberry (Melia azedarach) prolific in Redenção; Privet (Ligustrum) and London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia) widespread across urban streets. Pine (Pinus) contributes from the slopes of Morro Santana. Summer (December-February) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Guaíba River banks and Parque Marinha do Brasil.

High humidity and proximity to the Guaíba River can trap pollen, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in parklands and damp city structures.
