About Pollen in Phnom Penh

Phnom Penh has year-round allergy triggers; the dry season (November–April) has high Mango (Mangifera indica) pollen from trees near the Royal Palace and Wat Phnom. Acacia (Acacia) is common along Preah Sihanouk Boulevard; Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia) grows along the Tonle Sap and Mekong riverbanks. Year-round Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels are high near the riverside parks and open areas.

The flat river confluence traps airborne particles; high humidity increases allergen density. The wet season (May–October) has high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these originate from decaying organic matter in the humid streets and damp conditions near the Chaktomuk river junction.
