About Pollen in Yaoundé

Yaoundé’s dry season (December-February) is dominated by Oil Palm and Whistling Pine pollen; Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) prolific on the slopes of Mount Fébé; Whistling Pine (Casuarina equisetifolia) widespread near Parc de la Réunification. Mango (Mangifera indica) contributes significantly from residential gardens and along the Mfoundi River. The rainy season (March-June) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the green belts around Mrog-Betsi.

Tropical humidity and surrounding hills trap air masses, leading to localised high concentrations. Wet months see elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from damp vegetation in the Congo Basin fringes and city drainage systems.
