Pollen Count & Forecast for Calgary
About Pollen in Calgary
Calgary’s spring allergy season (April-June) is dominated by Poplar and Willow pollen; Poplar (Populus) common along the Bow River and Elbow River; Willow (Salix) and Birch (Betula) widespread in Fish Creek Provincial Park. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from Nose Hill Park and surrounding prairies. Late summer has Sagebrush (Artemisia) from dry hills.
Arid air and high winds spread pollen across the city; frequent Chinook winds cause sudden temperature changes. Autumn sees Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spores, from decaying vegetation in Glenmore Park and river flats. High elevation and low humidity limit total mould growth; levels are highest during the spring snowmelt.
