About Pollen in Montreal

Montreal’s spring allergy season (April-June) is dominated by Silver Maple and White Birch pollen; Silver Maple (Acer saccharinum) is common in Mount Royal Park; White Birch (Betula papyrifera) is present in Westmount. American Elm (Ulmus americana) is found along residential streets. Summer (June-August) has high Kentucky Bluegrass (Poa pratensis) pollen levels, originating from Parc Jean-Drapeau and the Lachine Canal banks. Late summer (August-October) has Common Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia) originating from vacant lots and rail corridors.

The island geography and Saint Lawrence River humidity lead to high pollen density. Autumn and winter have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in Angrignon Park and damp urban environments.
