Pollen Count & Forecast for Ottawa
About Pollen in Ottawa
Ottawa’s spring allergy season (April–June) is dominated by Maple and Birch pollen; Maple (Acer) prolific in Major’s Hill Park and Gatineau Park; Birch (Betula) widespread along the Rideau River. Oak (Quercus) contributes significantly from Rockcliffe Park. Summer (June–August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) and Ragweed (Ambrosia) pollen levels, originating from the Central Experimental Farm and along Ottawa River banks.
The Ottawa Valley geography traps pollen, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in the Greenbelt and damp conditions near the Rideau Canal.
