About Pollen in Hangzhou

Hangzhou’s spring (March-May) is dominated by Plane and Willow pollen; London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia) lines Beishan Road near West Lake; Willow (Salix) catkins are thick along Su Causeway. Pine (Pinus) releases pollen from hills near Lingyin Temple. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Xixi Wetland and Prince Bay Park. Autumn (September-November) features Mugwort (Artemisia) and Ragweed (Ambrosia) near the Qiantang River.

High humidity and the basin geography trap air near the city center. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp conditions in Longjing tea plantations and the shaded West Lake hills.
