Pollen Count & Forecast for Kunming
About Pollen in Kunming
Kunming’s spring allergy season (February–May) is dominated by Pine and Cypress pollen; Yunnan Pine (Pinus yunnanensis) abundant on the Western Hills and forest patches; Chinese Cypress (Cupressus duclouxiana) common in Green Lake Park and Panlong River banks. Alder (Alnus) contributes to counts near Daguan Park. Summer (June–August) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from fields surrounding Dianchi Lake.
High altitude and strong UV radiation increase pollen potency. Mountains surrounding the city trap air masses; the humid subtropical climate favors Mould (Alternaria, Aspergillus) growth. Decomposing organic matter in the Expo Horticultural Garden and wet lakefront areas raises spore counts during the rainy season.
