About Pollen in Qingdao

Qingdao’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Poplar and Willow pollen; Poplar (Populus) common in Zhongshan Park and along the Haibo River; Willow (Salix) widespread near the Huilan Pavilion. Black Pine (Pinus thunbergii) contributes significantly from the slopes of Mount Lao. Late summer (August-September) has high Mugwort (Artemisia) and Ragweed (Ambrosia) levels; these originate from the Shinan District and along city roadsides.

Coastal humidity and sea mists trap pollen; this leads to localized high concentrations near the shoreline. Summer and autumn have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; these are found in damp soil and leaf litter throughout Fushan Forest Park and city green spaces.
