Pollen Count & Forecast for Shanghai
About Pollen in Shanghai
Shanghai’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by London Plane (Platanus acerifolia) and Willow (Salix); Plane trees line the streets of the former French Concession; Willows are dense along the Huangpu River. Poplar (Populus) contributes pollen near Gongqing Forest Park. Autumn (September-November) has high levels of Mugwort (Artemisia) and Ragweed (Ambrosia); these species grow in Century Park and around Sheshan Hill.
High humidity and the coastal climate create damp conditions; the urban heat island effect traps pollen among dense high-rises. Summer and autumn have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; spores originate from decaying organic matter in Fuxing Park and along humid riverbanks.
