About Pollen in Tianjin

Tianjin’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Poplar and Willow pollen; Poplar (Populus) common along the Haihe River and within Water Park; Willow (Salix) widespread in urban greenbelts. Ash (Fraxinus) contributes significantly from the Jizhou hills. Late summer (August-September) sees high Mugwort (Artemisia) and Giant Ragweed (Ambrosia trifida) counts, originating from vacant lots near the Ziya River.

Strong seasonal winds from the north transport dust and regional pollen into the city; industrial particulates often bind to these allergens. High humidity near the Bohai Bay during late summer increases Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp soil along the Haihe River and decaying vegetation in People’s Park.
