About Pollen in Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik’s spring allergy season (March–June) is dominated by Cypress and Pine pollen; Mediterranean Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) dense on Mount Srđ; Aleppo Pine (Pinus halepensis) widespread across Lokrum Island. Olive (Olea europaea) pollen peaks in May from Lapad Peninsula groves. Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria judaica) grows in Old Town stone walls. Summer (June–August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Gradac Park and coastal outskirts.

Strong sea breezes disperse pollen inland or trap it against limestone cliffs. Humid maritime air and narrow stone streets support elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp cellar environments and shaded alleys during autumn.
