About Pollen in Split

Split’s spring allergy season (March-June) is dominated by Olive and Pellitory-of-the-wall pollen; Olive (Olea europaea) is dense on Marjan Forest Park slopes; Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria judaica) is widespread on limestone walls in the Varoš district. Cypress (Cupressus) contributes significantly from Sustipan and local parklands. Summer (June-August) has high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Žrnovnica River banks and Mosor Mountain foothills.

Narrow stone streets in the Old Town trap allergens; coastal Bora winds move pollen from inland mountains. Autumn and winter have elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from damp stone buildings and decaying vegetation in the Marjan woods.
