Pollen Count & Forecast for Kinshasa
About Pollen in Kinshasa
Kinshasa’s wet season (October–May) is dominated by Oil Palm and Grass pollen; African Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) common in the Jardin Botanique de Kinshasa; Guinea Grass (Megathyrsus maximus) dense in the Parc de la Vallée de la N’sele. The dry season (June–September) has high Mango (Mangifera indica) pollen levels from residential gardens and trees along the Congo River.
High humidity and stagnant air in the Congo River basin trap allergens; the Harmattan wind carries fine dust during the dry months. Year-round heat and moisture see elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these are common in damp interior spaces and the dense foliage near Mount Ngaliema.
