About Pollen in Aarhus

Aarhus’s spring allergy season (March–May) is dominated by Birch and Alder pollen; Birch (Betula) dense in Riis Skov and Marselisborg Forests; Alder (Alnus) common along the Aarhus River. Ash (Fraxinus) contributes to late spring counts from city parks. Summer (June–August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Mindeparken and the Botanical Garden. Mugwort (Artemisia) is present along coastal fringes near the Aarhus Harbour.

Coastal winds from the Bay of Aarhus affect pollen dispersal; urban street layouts trap allergens in city squares. Autumn and winter have high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decaying organic matter in Marselisborg Forests and damp garden soils.
