Pollen Count & Forecast for Cairo
About Pollen in Cairo
Cairo’s spring allergy season (February-May) is dominated by Date Palm and Olive pollen; Date Palm (Phoenix dactylifera) common in Al-Azhar Park and Gezira Island; Olive (Olea europaea) widespread in the Orman Botanical Garden. Mulberry (Morus) contributes significantly from the Giza Zoo grounds. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) and Pigweed (Amaranthus) levels, originating from agricultural fields along Nile River banks.
Dry Khamsin winds carry desert dust and pollen into the urban center; the dense architecture of Al-Khalifa traps particles in narrow streets. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from Nile irrigation channels and damp building interiors.
