About Pollen in San Salvador

San Salvador’s dry season (November-April) is dominated by grass and fruit tree pollen; Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) prolific in Parque Cuscatlán and Parque Bicentenario; Mango (Mangifera indica) and Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) widespread on the slopes of San Salvador Volcano. Mexican White Cedar (Cupressus lusitanica) contributes significantly from the higher elevations of El Boquerón. The rainy season (May-October) sees lower pollen counts due to frequent rain.

The Valle de las Hamacas topography traps allergens; steep hills surrounding the city limit air circulation. High humidity levels during the wet season support Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) growth; spores concentrate near the Acelhuate River and damp urban drainage systems.
