Pollen Count & Forecast for Addis Ababa
About Pollen in Addis Ababa
Addis Ababa’s dry season (October–May) is dominated by Blue Gum and Cypress pollen; Blue Gum (Eucalyptus globulus) dense in the Entoto Hills; Monterey Cypress (Cupressus macrocarpa) common in Sheger Park. African Juniper (Juniperus procera) contributes pollen from the Menagesha Suba Forest. Dry months (February–May) see high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Unity Park and the Akaki riverbanks.
High altitude and temperature inversions trap pollen, leading to localised high concentrations. The wet season (June–September) sees elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from decaying vegetation in the Gullele Botanical Garden and damp building materials.
