Pollen Count & Forecast for Suva
About Pollen in Suva
Suva’s tropical climate has year-round pollen with peaks in the drier season (May-October); Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) common across Albert Park and the Suva Point foreshore; Mango (Mangifera indica) widespread near Thurston Gardens. Elephant Grass (Pennisetum purpureum) contributes significantly along the Rewa River banks. The wet season (November-April) sees high Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia) pollen levels, originating from the Lami coastal fringes and Vatuwaqa flats.
High humidity and heavy tropical rainfall trap allergens within the Suva basin, leading to localised high concentrations. The humid rainy season (November-April) sees elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from the dense leaf litter of Colo-i-Suva Forest Park and damp building interiors.
