Pollen Count & Forecast for Helsinki
About Pollen in Helsinki
Helsinki’s spring (April–June) is dominated by Birch (Betula) and Alder (Alnus) pollen; Birch is common in Keskuspuisto and Seurasaari; Alder is found along Vantaa River banks. Pine (Pinus) contributes heavy yellow dust in June across Uutela and northern forests. Summer (June–August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels from the fields of Malmi and Sibelius Park. Mugwort (Artemisia) peaks in late August near Pasila railway lines.
Sea breezes from the Gulf of Finland can disperse pollen inland; urban heat islands trap heat in the Kamppi district. Autumn and winter see high Mould (Cladosporium, Alternaria) spore counts; these originate from decomposing vegetation in Esplanadi and Kaisaniemi Park. Cold winters suppress outdoor allergens until the spring thaw.
