Pollen Count & Forecast for Lyon
About Pollen in Lyon
Lyon’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch (Betula) and London Plane (Platanus x acerifolia) pollen; Birch is common in Parc de la Tête d’Or; Plane trees are along the banks of the Rhône and Saône rivers. Oak (Quercus) is on the slopes of Fourvière hill. Summer (May-July) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels from the Grand Parc de Miribel-Jonage. Late summer (August-September) has Ragweed (Ambrosia artemisiifolia); this plant is in the Rhone valley.
The city’s position in a river basin traps allergens; humidity from the waterways increases spore activity. Autumn and winter have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) counts; these are in damp leaf litter within the Croix-Rousse district and public gardens.
