About Pollen in Nice

Nice’s spring allergy season (February–May) is dominated by Cypress and Olive pollen; Cypress (Cupressus) common on the Colline du Château and Mont Boron; Olive (Olea europaea) widespread across the Cimiez district. Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria) contributes significantly from old stone walls along the Promenade du Paillon. Summer (May–July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Var River valley and slopes of Mont Gros.

The Mediterranean climate and sea breezes trap pollen against the Mercantour foothills, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in Parc Phoenix and damp city environments.
