About Pollen in Bremen

Bremen’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch (Betula) and Alder (Alnus) pollen; Birch trees are numerous in Bürgerpark and Rhododendron-Park; Alder is common along the Weser riverbanks. Oak (Quercus) contributes significantly from the forests of the Blockland. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from the meadows of the Werdersee and along the Weser riverbanks.

Flat topography and North Sea winds carry pollen across the urban center; the Weser river valley acts as a wind corridor. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp leaf litter in the Stadtwald and marshy areas near the Ochtum river.
