About Pollen in Hamburg

Hamburg’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch and Alder pollen; Birch (Betula) prolific in Planten un Blomen and around the Alster Lake; Alder (Alnus) widespread in the Niendorfer Gehege. Hazel (Corylus) contributes significantly from the Ohlsdorf Cemetery. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Elbe riverbanks and the Stadtpark.

Moist air from the Elbe River and North Sea winds can transport pollen, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in Jenisch Park and damp canal environments.
