Pollen Count & Forecast for Thessaloniki
About Pollen in Thessaloniki
Thessaloniki’s spring allergy season (March–May) is dominated by Olive and Pellitory pollen; Olive (Olea europaea) is prolific across the Chalkidiki foothills; Pellitory (Parietaria) is widespread on stone walls near the White Tower. Cypress (Cupressus) contributes significantly from the Seih Sou Forest. Summer (May–July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the plains of Central Macedonia and Mount Chortiatis slopes.
The Thermaic Gulf’s sea breezes push pollen inland; the surrounding hills trap particles against the urban center. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from leaf litter in peri-urban forests and humid coastal air.
