About Pollen in Tegucigalpa

Tegucigalpa’s dry season (January–May) is dominated by Pine and Oak pollen; Ocote Pine (Pinus oocarpa) dense in La Tigra National Park and El Picacho; Oak (Quercus) widespread across surrounding hillsides. Sweet Acacia (Vachellia farnesiana) contributes significantly from Distrito Central scrublands. Rainy season (May–October) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the valley floor and along Choluteca riverbanks.

Steep mountain ridges trap air pollutants and allergens, leading to localised high concentrations in the urban basin. September and October see elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from high humidity in hillside barrios and along Choluteca River.
