About Pollen in Kanpur

Kanpur’s spring allergy season (February–April) is dominated by Neem and Eucalyptus pollen; Neem (Azadirachta indica) is dense in Allen Forest Zoo and Phool Bagh; Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) is along the Ganges River riverbanks. Peepal (Ficus religiosa) is common near city temples. Summer and monsoon (June–September) have high Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) and Congress Grass (Parthenium hysterophorus) levels, originating from Nana Rao Park and along Ganges River riverbanks.

Industrial emissions and dust from the Gangetic plain trap allergens; high humidity keeps particles near ground level. Winter and monsoon months have high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these come from damp riverbeds and leaf litter in the IIT Kanpur wooded areas.
