About Pollen in Mumbai

Mumbai’s tropical climate has year-round allergen cycles; Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) is heavy after monsoon rains in Sanjay Gandhi National Park and Aarey Colony. Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia) is found near Juhu Beach; Copperpod (Peltophorum pterocarpum) is widespread along avenues in Dadar and South Mumbai. Parthenium (Parthenium hysterophorus) is common in open ground along the Mithi River banks.

High humidity and sea breezes from the Arabian Sea move pollen inland; the Tulsi and Vihar Lake areas are reservoirs for airborne particles. The monsoon season has high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) counts; spores are in damp masonry and decaying vegetation across coastal areas.
