About Pollen in Surabaya

Surabaya’s dry season (May-September) is dominated by grass pollen; Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) prolific in Taman Bungkul and Bratang Flora Park; Cogon Grass (Imperata cylindrica) widespread in vacant lots. Acacia (Acacia auriculiformis) contributes significantly along Brantas River riverbanks. The wet season (October-April) sees high Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia) pollen levels, originating from Kenjeran Beach and coastal mangrove areas.

Dense urban blocks and high humidity trap pollen, leading to concentrated urban hotspots. The wet season sees elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts, from decaying organic matter in the Surabaya Zoo and damp city buildings.
