About Pollen in Jerusalem

Jerusalem’s spring allergy season (February–May) is dominated by Olive (Olea europaea) and Palestine Oak (Quercus calliprinos) pollen; Olive trees are dense on the Mount of Olives and in the Jerusalem Forest; Oak is frequent around Sacher Park and Ein Karem hills. Mediterranean Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) counts are high during winter. Summer (May–September) sees high Grass (Poaceae) and Pellitory (Parietaria) pollen levels; these originate from stone walls and the Wohl Rose Park.

Dry desert winds carry dust into the urban center; narrow stone alleys in the Old City trap airborne particles. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; these are from damp masonry and leaf litter in the Valley of the Cross.
