Pollen Count & Forecast for Florence
About Pollen in Florence
Florence’s spring allergy season (February–June) is dominated by Cypress and Olive pollen; Cypress (Cupressus sempervirens) is abundant on the Fiesole hills and around the Boboli Gardens; Olive (Olea europaea) is common across the surrounding Tuscan hillsides. Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria judaica) grows on stone walls along the Arno River. Summer (May–July) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels; these originate from the open fields of Parco delle Cascine.
The valley setting and Arno River basin can trap allergens; stagnant air creates high local concentrations during heatwaves. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts; these come from damp riverbanks and decaying organic matter in historic gardens.
