Pollen Count & Forecast for Naples
About Pollen in Naples
Naples’ spring allergy season (March-June) is dominated by Pellitory and Olive pollen; Pellitory of the wall (Parietaria judaica) prolific on stone walls near Castel dell’Ovo; Olive (Olea europaea) widespread on the slopes of Mount Vesuvius. Cypress (Cupressus) contributes from the Phlegraean Fields. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Bosco di Capodimonte and Parco Virgiliano.
Sea breezes from the Gulf of Naples carry pollen inland; narrow streets in the historic centre trap particles, causing localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp tuff stone structures and humid air near Villa Comunale.
