About Pollen in Verona

Verona’s spring allergy season (February-May) is dominated by Cypress and Pellitory pollen; Cypress (Cupressus) frequent on the Torricelle hills and Parco delle Colombare; Pellitory-of-the-wall (Parietaria) common along Adige River stone walls. Olive (Olea europaea) contributes significantly from nearby Valpolicella groves. Summer (May-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from Parco dell’Adige and flat agricultural plains.

The surrounding hills trap air within the Adige valley; this creates high pollen concentrations in the urban center. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp leaf litter in city parks and riverbank vegetation.
