Yamoussoukro’s dry Harmattan season (November–February) has high Oil Palm (Elaeis guineensis) and Cashew (Anacardium occidentale) pollen; Oil Palm is high near the Presidential Palace gardens; Cashew is common in rural plantations. The rainy season (March–October) has high Grass (Poaceae) counts; these are frequent along the Bandama River and around the city’s artificial lakes.
Flat geography and wide boulevards are routes for wind-borne allergens. Constant tropical humidity has high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore levels; these are present near Lake Yamoussoukro and the damp soils of the Abokouamekro Game Reserve. Organic decay in urban drainage channels has high fungal counts during periods of heavy rainfall.
