About Pollen in Fukuoka

Fukuoka’s spring allergy season (February–May) is dominated by Cedar and Cypress pollen; Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) prolific in the Sefuri Mountains and Sawara-ku forests; Japanese Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) widespread across hillside plantations. Summer and early autumn (August–October) see high Orchard Grass (Dactylis glomerata) and Mugwort (Artemisia) levels, originating from the Muromi River and Ohori Park. Ragweed (Ambrosia) contributes significantly from open spaces near Hakata Bay.

The Sefuri mountain range traps windborne pollen over the coastal plain; seasonal yellow dust from mainland Asia often carries additional irritants. Summer and autumn see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in Maizuru Park and damp urban environments.
