About Pollen in Saitama

Saitama’s spring allergy season (February–May) is dominated by Cedar and Cypress pollen; Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) abundant in the Chichibu mountains; Japanese Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) common in Omiya Park. Oak (Quercus) contributes significantly from the Bessonuma Park area. Summer (May–August) has high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Arakawa River floodplains and banks.

The Kanto Plain’s flat geography allows wind to carry mountain pollen into urban areas. Autumn and winter have elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp temple grounds and decomposing vegetation in the Minuma Rice Paddies.
