Pollen Count & Forecast for Sendai
About Pollen in Sendai
Sendai’s spring (February-May) is dominated by Cedar and Cypress pollen; Japanese Cedar (Cryptomeria japonica) prolific in the Aobayama hills and Ou Mountains; Japanese Cypress (Chamaecyparis obtusa) widespread near the Hirose River. Summer has high Grass (Poaceae) levels; Mugwort (Artemisia) and Ragweed (Ambrosia) follow in autumn along riverbanks and open fields.
The Sendai plain traps allergens between the Pacific coast and western mountains. High humidity increases Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) counts; spores are common in damp areas of Tsutsujigaoka Park and residential gardens. Sea breezes carry moisture inland; damp leaf litter in forested shrines contributes to winter spore levels.
