Pollen Count & Forecast for Almaty
About Pollen in Almaty
Almaty’s spring allergy season (March–May) is dominated by Birch and Poplar pollen; Birch (Betula) prolific in the Ile-Alatau National Park and Panfilov Park; Poplar (Populus) widespread along city avenues. Maple (Acer) and Willow (Salix) contribute from the First President’s Park. Summer (June–August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) and Wormwood (Artemisia) pollen levels, originating from the Trans-Ili Alatau foothills and Bolshaya Almatinka riverbanks.
Mountain-valley winds and temperature inversions trap pollen against the Trans-Ili Alatau range, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing leaf litter in city parks and damp environments near the Esentai River.
