Pollen Count & Forecast for Riga
About Pollen in Riga
Riga’s spring season (April–May) is dominated by Birch and Pine pollen; Birch (Betula) prolific in Mežaparks and Biķernieki forest; Pine (Pinus) widespread throughout sandy coastal areas. Spruce (Picea) contributes significantly from suburban outskirts. Summer (June–August) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels, originating from meadows along the Daugava riverbanks. Late summer sees Mugwort (Artemisia) in urban lots and Kronvalda Park.
The flat coastal topography and Baltic Sea winds carry pollen into the city center. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from damp leaf litter in Bastejkalna Park and high humidity near the Gulf of Riga.
