About Pollen in Luxembourg City

Luxembourg City’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Hazel and Alder pollen; Hazel (Corylus) prolific along the Pétrusse Valley; Alder (Alnus) widespread near the Alzette River. Oak (Quercus) contributes significantly from the Bambësch forest. Summer (June-August) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from the Kirchberg plateau and city parklands.

Steep sandstone cliffs and narrow valleys trap airborne particles; the Grund and Clausen districts have concentrated levels. Autumn and winter see Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spores, from decomposing leaf litter in the Municipal Park and damp river environments.
