Pollen Count & Forecast for Maputo
About Pollen in Maputo
Maputo’s dry season (May-September) has high levels of Casuarina (Casuarina equisetifolia) pollen; trees are common along Avenida Marginal and coastal dunes. Acacia (Vachellia) blooms in Tunduru Botanical Gardens and Jardim dos Namorados. The wet season (October-April) brings high Grass (Poaceae) pollen; these grow along the Infulene River and in suburban lots. Mango (Mangifera indica) trees in residential gardens trigger reactions during spring flowering.
Coastal humidity and breezes from Maputo Bay affect pollen dispersal; inland winds carry particles from the Marracuene plains. High humidity and summer rains lead to elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; these thrive in damp coastal air and the thick vegetation of the Polana district.
