About Pollen in Amsterdam

Amsterdam’s spring allergy season (February-May) is dominated by Silver Birch (Betula pendula) and English Ash (Fraxinus excelsior); Birch is prolific in Vondelpark and Amsterdamse Bos; Ash is widespread in Westerpark. Oak (Quercus robur) has a high presence in larger parks. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels; these are from the Amstel riverbanks and Flevopark meadows.

Low-lying polders and the canal network trap pollen; North Sea winds move allergens inland. Autumn and winter see high Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) counts; these are from decaying leaf litter in the Amsterdamse Bos and damp city environments.
