About Pollen in The Hague

The Hague’s spring allergy season (March-May) is dominated by Birch and Oak pollen; Birch (Betula) prolific in the Haagse Bos and Scheveningse Bosjes; Oak (Quercus) widespread throughout Westduinpark. Willow (Salix) contributes significantly from parklands near the Hofvijver and city canals. Summer (May-July) sees high Grass (Poaceae) pollen levels, originating from Zuiderpark and dunes along the North Sea coast.

Urban street canyons and dense city architecture can trap pollen, leading to localised high concentrations. Autumn and winter see elevated Mould (Alternaria, Cladosporium) spore counts, from decomposing organic matter in the dunes and damp canal environments.
