About Pollen in Lima

Lima’s spring allergy season (September-November) is dominated by Molle and Eucalyptus pollen; Molle (Schinus molle) is common in Miraflores and Parque Kennedy; Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus globulus) grows along the Rímac River banks. Olive (Olea europaea) pollen is high in San Isidro near Bosque El Olivar. Summer (December-March) has high Grass (Poaceae) levels; these originate from the Parque de la Reserva and green spaces in Jesús María.

High humidity and the coastal garúa fog trap particles near the ground; the Andes foothills like Cerro San Cristóbal block air circulation. Year-round dampness leads to high Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; spores concentrate in older buildings and damp coastal districts like Barranco.
