About Pollen in Cebu

Cebu’s dry season (January-May) is dominated by Mango (Mangifera indica) pollen; trees are common in the Busay hills and residential gardens. Narra (Pterocarpus indicus) contributes to triggers near Plaza Independencia. The rainy season (June-December) has high Bermuda Grass (Cynodon dactylon) and Cogon Grass (Imperata cylindrica) levels; these grow along the Butuanon River and slopes of Mount Kan-irag.

Coastal winds from the Cebu Strait push pollen inland; steep terrain in the mountain range traps air over the city. High humidity supports elevated Mould (Aspergillus, Penicillium) spore counts; spores are common in damp urban areas and near the Guadalupe River.
